Headlines

The National Connexions Network (NCN) was launched at the end of March for Connexions workers. It will be led jointly by Steve Hoy, chief executive of Connexions Cheshire and Warrington, and Andrew Simmons, chief executive of Connexions Hertfordshire.

The forthcoming statutory guidance on the principles of impartial careers education from the DCSF will go out for public consultation in May and further details will be made available through this newsletter.  It is expected that they will be published in October.  The Education and Skills Act 2008 requires schools to ensure that information about learning options and careers is presented impartially and that advice promotes the best interests of pupils.

Round-up

Publication of the Macdonald review on PSHE education

Following the publication of the Macdonald review on 27 April there will be a full public consultation commencing 30 April 2009 that will invite views on the principle of whether PSHE education should be made statutory, as well as on the changes to the legislation required to achieve that, and the programmes of study. The publication can be viewed from both the DCSF and Teachernet websites.
