Advisers’ Certificate – Applying to HE

London South Bank University are running a Master’s Level 15-credit CPD course from February to June 2009 on advising young people and adults about the steps that can lead to Higher Education (HE) and the possible outcomes of those decisions.

The course is targeted at teachers and advisers qualified to at least the equivalent of NVQ level 4 and who have recently found they are required to advise on progression to HE or expect to in the near future.

It looks at HE careers information and graduate knowledge including labour market information, effective use and development of on-line information and advice, the provision of more intensive one-to-one guidance. All aspects will be underpinned by reference to theory of career choice and models of guidance.

The course will be delivered through a mix of workshops (combining face-to-face learning and reflective practice), on-line material, self directed learning, and work related assignments with clear pass/fail criteria. It will be the equivalent of 15 credits / 1 unit at Masters level (*subject to validation).

It will require a commitment to attend LSBU (London SE1) on three (non-consecutive) days which include a 1:1 tutorial, and off-site learning activities. The initial course will run over 15 weeks (includes a 2 week Easter recess) between February 2009 – June 2009. The course will be repeated in the autumn.

The fee for UK and EU applicants is £530 and includes 1 year student membership of the Institute of Career Guidance. (If already a member the reduced price is £495)
