'Challenging gender stereotypes about work' and 'Finding a Future' YWCA is a charity which campaigns for better careers advice for the most disadvantaged girls and young women in England and Wales.
Finding a Future is a briefing by YWCA which examines how careers education is failing some girls and what needs to be done to help girls think beyond 'women's work'. Download the report: http://www.ywca.org.uk/docs/Findingafuture.pdf
Challenging gender stereotypes about work examines the plight of about one million young women living in poverty in Great Britain. There are many reasons for this, but one is the work they do. Women still dominate the lowest paid industries such as caring and cleaning. Part of the problem is occupational segregation and gender stereotypes. YWCA want to challenge gender stereotypes about work and argue that this can by done by using non-formal education for careers guidance.
